Fall Residencies Make Random Strangers Jam NYC's Only Multi-Borough Funk Rock Jam Session

Manhattan, NY - September 2025 marks the beginning of a new era for live jam sessions in New York City and around the world.

Random Strangers Jam is scaling its one-of-a-kind fully improvised funk rock jam sessions with residencies Select Thursdays at Sugar Mouse in Manhattan's East Village and First Saturdays at Alewife Brewing in Sunnyside, Queens through the end of 2025.

Random Strangers Jam - NYC's only multi-location, multi-borough jam session

There are many jam sessions in NYC but they are all limited to one location. Not Random Strangers Jam. Our goal is to be the go-to jam session in every city and town around the world with fully improvised jam sessions led by local hosts. This summer, we are proving the concept has legs.

Random Strangers Jam's Sugar Mouse shows are spread across 10 Thursdays 8-10pm this fall with the kick-off on September 4th. Alewife Brewing shows are scheduled every First Saturday 8-11pm starting September 6th. Sign-ups are available in person 30 minutes before the start.

The addition of these residencies underscores the growing demand from musicians and bar owners for highly interactive, one-of-a-kind live performances that can bring in fresh performers and listeners regularly.

These shows add to the momentum of Random Strangers Jam just 7 months after securing a federal trademark registration to protect its name and brand in anticipation of growth to new locations.

What makes Random Strangers Jam sessions special?

Random Strangers Jam remembers a time in life when jam sessions were FUN. They were the spaces where friends let their guard down and shared creative ideas musically, and this often led to philosophical discussions and personal conversations that led to forming real connections with the other people in the room. A high school jam session would applaud the crazy phenomenal solos, while tolerating the kids who maybe weren't quite ready to be there but had interesting ideas and could only become ready by getting that first chance.    

Somewhere along the lines of growing up these jam sessions transformed from open grounds of experimentation, into gatekept, repertoire-testing, panic inducing soloing contests. Impressive in skill but lacking in humanity.

Random Strangers Jam is a return to fun jam sessions. It's a simple idea that every adult with a guitar on their wall or with a drum kit in their garage/basement is looking for. Your childhood love never died. The space you used to play in just stopped welcoming you.
