To abstract away from all the structures forced on us, and instead to exist in a flow state with the feelings of other human beings. This is why Random Strangers Jam works. We haven't invented anything new. We just know and protect the fact improvised music is communication in its purest and most evolved form.

Moving Random Strangers Jam to a public space meant turning it into a true third place: A free, public space where you can affirm your own identity while building empathy for identities different from your own. A place where all skill levels and genres are welcome to join the community. A place where new voices are welcomed and no one is shamed for trying. So, where do friends come from? A jam session where every random stranger jams.

Art and music are inherently abstract and require practice no matter how naturally talented you are. Your first time playing a song will suck. It just will. You won't know the notes. You won't have the muscle to play the proper technique, nor the muscle memory to play it at full speed, nor the self-trust to put feeling into the notes being performed.

My belief for several years now has been that we will see Spotify and other streaming platforms increasingly over-run with these AI bands over the coming years. This barrage of AI "slop" will be devoid of the human emotion inherent to real art - and this over-saturation of digital art -will lead a substantial portion of the population to seek unique in-person events.
